NASCAR meets Tuesday with the NFL to discuss a proposal for a sports car meeting in 2018, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The meeting would be the first since the NFL Players Association threatened to withhold the team’s 2018 draft picks unless the league committed to the NFL’s plan to create a new, permanent stadium in the South.
The NFLPA’s move has created friction with the league and led to a push by the NFLPA for an NFL meeting to be held in 2018.NASCAR, which has no franchise team in South Florida, said Tuesday it was open to discussing the potential for the 2018 NFL draft, which is scheduled to begin March 11.NASL Commissioner Brian France said Tuesday that a meeting with the NBA, NFL, and NBAPA could be considered if the league commits to a meeting.
He declined to comment on a potential 2019 draft date.
French said the meeting is expected to begin in early May.
A conference call between NASCAR and the NFL and NBA and NBA teams has not been scheduled.
